JA Job Shadow Students Have Amazing Experiences

The JA Job Shadow Program has been growing by leaps and bounds lately, and we want to tell you about some of the amazing experiences local students have had recently thanks to some wonderful companies!

Union Bank & Trust hosted 8th grade students from Lux Middle School for a JA Job Shadow in February. Students got to tour the UNL branch of UBT, ask questions to a panel of UBT employees, and plan a UBT booth for Big Red Welcome.  Thanks, UBT!

Irving Middle School students visited HOME Real Estate for their JA Job Shadow experience. Students had the opportunity to learn more about the different departments at HOME, what the life of an agent is like, and even sit in on the office’s weekly sales meeting. Students took an employee-led tour around the office, and got the chance to speak to multiple members of the HOME team in departments including Sales and Listing, Marketing, and Front Office coordinations, and also spoke a member of The SearcyTeam of HOME Real Estate. They participated in activities where they designed their own neighborhoods, learned about community planning and how Lincoln is growing, and they explored what it’s like to relocate to a different state by calling agents in Arizona and Rhode Island. What a day! We are so appreciative to HOME Real Estate!

8th grade students from Schoo Middle School had the chance to take a JA Job Shadow trip to Molex. They worked with employees to learn more about electronic solutions for a range of industries including data communications, customer electronics, industrial, automotive, commercial vehicle, and medical. The students took an employee-led tour around the Lincoln location and view their warehouse, assembly, stamping, and molding in action! The students heard from a panel of employees (including one who has been an Molex for over 20 years), and asked questions about their educational background, previous career experience, current position, and motivations to help make Molex a successful organization. Thank you, Molex!

Thank you Bryan Health and Bryan College of Health Sciences for hosting 8th grade students from Pound Middle School for a JA Job Shadow day. Students got to tour the simulation lab as well as the skills lab to explore medical professions. They also got to learn about the many other careers at Bryan Health, including accounting, marketing, dining services, and IT. We are so grateful to Bryan Health!

30 high school students from all six LPS high schools got a JA Job Shadow experience at Lincoln Electric System. Students explored what goes into purchasing power agreements, the incredible technology being used today at LES, and they even had the chance to get hands-on some with equipment and see some control rooms. During lunch, students got to interact with LES employees from all different areas about their career paths and what it’s like to work at LES. Great advice was given by all the volunteers, but we especially appreciate one piece of advice that we heard more than once: “Don’t be afraid to try something new and take risks — you never know what will happen!” Thank you for an amazing day, LES!
