Sharing
At JA of Lincoln, we love our volunteers! Tens of thousands of local students are served every year, thanks to the generosity of people who are willing to share their time and experiences. Every volunteer is priceless, but some really go above and beyond. This month, we’re spotlighting one of those special volunteers, in her own words.
Here’s why JA of Lincoln classroom volunteer Janis Landon says she loves the JA experience:
"I volunteered for JA once when I worked for Ameritas and then waited until I retired to volunteer again. It’s been very rewarding for me and I know it’s a way to give back to my community. It’s not just for employees/companies; it’s perfect for retirees, such as myself. I would encourage people with a love of sharing knowledge with children to volunteer 5 hours in the classroom. I love working with the different age groups every year. They always share their excitement as they learn something new and they’re so appreciative and so much fun. I enjoy it as much as they do. My favorite memory was when several students came up to me and told me my “class” was their favorite and they learned a lot. At the end of the week I was presented with handmade thank you notes from each student."
