On April 20, JA of Lincoln hosted the largest Junior Achievement Stock Market Challenge in the nation!
While we would have loved to host all our high schoolers in person, having a virtual event this year allowed us to include more of the state than ever before. 656 high school students from 29 Nebraska high schools Zoomed in for our 6th annual competition!
Another benefit of being virtual is that the entire event was recorded, meaning you can check it out for yourself at (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1J8bfjFhlA&t=18s). Don’t miss special virtual drop-ins from surprise guests including Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts (56:21), Emmy-winning television host Tom Bergeron (1:14:18), and actor Brian Baumgartner (Kevin from The Office, at 04:32)!
With all those students competing, this year’s challenge was more competitive than ever. Big congratulations to the three teams that came out on top:
1st Place: Pius X, Team #5
Team members include Trent Kadavy, Gus Kohn, Joe Kuntz, and Liam Wiese, with teacher Ryan Psota
2nd Place: Yutan, Team #2
Team members include Kaitlyn Bisaillon, Nolan Timm, Caleb Tarmuto, and Carter Tichota, with teacher Clay Carlton
3rd Place: Lincoln Southeast, Team #5
Team members include Drew Ekstrum, Gypsy Briggs, and Andrew Braaten, with teacher Lindsay Tillinghast
You can watch the announcement of the winners beginning at 1:57:06 on the video.
Like so many other things, this year’s JA of Lincoln Stock Market Challenge was very different this year than in the past. But we found the positives, used the virtual format to our advantage, and produced an educational and impactful event for our students. Thank you again to all the amazing sponsors, staff, and volunteers who made this unique event possible!
