JA Re-imagines Classroom Experience

A lot of things have changed at school this year, but JA remains committed as ever to making a difference in the lives of students. We’re bringing students the same important mission - financial literacy, career readiness and entrepreneurship curriculum- and ensuring that students are able to continue to interact with a local, community volunteer - YOU! With your help, we can be confident that our students will continue to receive relevant, experiential education for the real world.

Volunteering for JA has never been easier!

Outside volunteers are not currently being allowed into schools, so we have reimagined what the JA experience will look like in classrooms. Classroom teachers will take the lead on the Junior Achievement lessons, and will have all materials delivered to them (under ordinary circumstances, volunteers bring materials into the classroom). JA classroom volunteers will still be an important part of the experience, joining the class via Zoom for three 15-minute interactions. Before those sessions, volunteers will receive a short, easy-to-follow training that will include step-by-step lesson plans. Want a preview? Click here  (five-minute training video) to see the five-minute training video that includes everything you need to know!

This temporary format requires a reduced time commitment, which we hope will encourage new volunteers to give it a try and returning volunteers to take on additional classrooms. There’s still a big demand for the JA curriculum, and we need your help to ensure that every student benefits from the JA experience!

In addition to this new volunteer format, we are excited to announce two updated programs. Even in this challenging time, we’re growing and improving, always striving to offer our students the best experience possible.

JA Titan (Updated!)

JA Titan is a simulation-based program in which high school students compete as business CEOs in the phone industry, experiencing firsthand how an organization evaluates alternatives, makes decisions, analyzes the outcomes of those decisions, and then strategizes what to do next. With a focus on financial literacy and insights into the workforce, JA Titan brings business economics to life. As students work to make financial decisions about production, marketing, research and development (R&D), and corporate social responsibility (CSR), they begin to see how every choice made in an organization relates to its future success.

JA Econ Case Study (New!)

This new program is customized specifically for LPS and will replace JA Exploring Economics. It is a 3-session experience, with the first session including the volunteer deep-diving into their education and career experience. The next two sessions consist of a case study where students will learn about weighing decisions and use that skill to decide if a restaurant should expand to a new country.
